Forty Winks Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club Semi Finals Match Reports Sat 7th Feb.

The heat-wave conditions did not help Quake in their quest to qualify for the NSW Premier League Grand Finals. Whilst the 14 boys and 16 girls semis were cancelled due to the heat, both our Youth and Open Men were unsuccessful in their first attempts at qualifying.

16 Girls Semi Final against Sydney Magic has been rescheduled to be played at the State Sports Centre at Homebush on Thurs 12th Feb 8.30pm Kick off.

The 14 Boys will play Mascot Vipers at Dural on Friday 13th Feb with the kick off at 7.30pm.

Our Youth Men were convincingly defeated 6-3 by a very committed Inner West Allstars. After a horrendous start to the game, Quake found themselves 2-0 at the break. Lacking the usual intensity, Quake could not respond in the second stanza and with 15 minutes to go and 4-nil down, this game was over. Things got worse as Allstars continued to push their advantage and continued their scoring spree, leading 6-1 with 10 minutes on the clock left. It took Quake this long to start playing their usual passing game where they added some respectability to the scoreline with a couple of quick goals. The Quake scorers were Darren Shadlow (1) and a double to Mark Symington. They play Sydney City in the grand final qualifier next Saturday.

In the Men’s game, Quake met Sydney Magic. Quake came out of the blocks well but was dealt a blow when on 9 minutes, Dylan Maloney’s shot was threaded past the legs of all Quake defenders and past keeper Jon Azzopardi. Quake responded quickly when Magic failed to clear a ball which was played back in the path of Quake target Danny Martinez who restored parity. However, in the 20th minute, a 3 on 1 opportunity to Quake was well defended by Magic who turned defence into attack and were presented with a 3 on 1 of their own, where Andrew Nolan put Magic ahead again. The second half was scoreless, with Quake having the ascendancy but unable to beat Magic keeper Peter Spathis who had one of his usual outstanding matches. Quake lives to fight another day where they will play Inner West Allstars on Saturday for the right to play Magic in the big one.
