Forty Winks Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club Match Report – Saturday 15th Nov 2008.
17-Nov-08 by Scoops Martinez Round 6 of the NSW Premier League saw the Forty Winks Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club travel to the Olympic precinct to meet the might of the Inner West Allstars. The result was not what we expected as Quake came home with just 7 Club Championship points, in 1 win and two draws. 12 boys – Quake 0 – IWAS 3.
The result did not really tell the story of the match. It was Quake’s lack of finishing that let them down on the day. On the other hand, IWAS took their chances and deserved the win. Jack Taseski had a strong game for Quake.
14 boys – Quake 12 (Pat Antelmi 4, Bruno Antelmi 1, Jake McGing 2, Daniel Vellonio 3, Marko Vukovic 1 and Shannon Fielding 1) – IWAS 2.
As the score suggests, this was an extremely convincing win by this very strong side that just keeps improving. The smaller in size but very skilful IWAS team was no match for Quake. After going to the break at 3-nil, the boys from Campbelltown put away a further 9 goals in the second half to establish themselves as genuine contenders for this year’s title. Whilst it was entirely a team effort, Pat Antelmi and Daniel Vellonio were best for Quake.
13 girls – Quake 1 (Lucy Chapman) – IWAS 4.
In this game, Quake created plenty of chances but their inability to convert cost the dearly. After conceding an early soft goal, Quake came back via a Lucy Chapman goal. However, the difference was IWAS number 11, Kristen Gabrielli, who was superb on the day. Best for Quake was Lucy Chapman.
16 boys – Quake 5 (Pat Antelmi 2, Guy Goodwin Saeed Colley , OG 1) – IWAS 5.
This was the most exciting match of the day. The game finished in a 5-all draw and Quake had a chance to win it as they were awarded a 10 m penalty on full time. They were unsuccessful in converting it, but a 5-all draw was probably a fair result in the end. Quake twice came back from being behind, highlighting their fighting spirits. The 16’s squad was bolstered by Pat Antelmi, Jake McGing, Daniel Vellonio, Marko Vukovic and Bruno Antelmi from the 14 boys, who were outstanding.
16 girls – Quake 1 (Linda Dudek) – IWAS 3.
We forecasted this game to be a good one, and I don’t think it disappointed anyone. This was a game of two halves. The first half was dominated by Quake, who took the lead via a Linda Dudek goal. But IWAS showed what a truly great team they are and fired 3 great goals in the second half and took the match 3-1. Best for Quake was Ivana Bojanovic.
Youth Men – Quake 1 (Daniel Fulton) – IWAS 1.
Once again, these 2 teams proved how even they are. Their last 4 encounters have finished in draws after regular time, twice going to extra time. We must be honest and say that the evenness of these teams did not allow for a more open game. It was more of an arm wrestle, as they tried to find weaknesses they could exploit. After a scoreless first half, IWAS took the lead via Daniel Fogarty. When Coach Dom Helene introduced Ediz Alpkaya, it brought instant results as he played a ball to Daniel Fulton who converted. The game’s finish was a little anti-climatic, as neither team could find the winner, but we are certain this rivalry will continue as the season unfolds.
Women – Quake 0 – IWAS 3.
Another tight game, where a scoreless first half set up the challenge for both teams. It was IWAS who took on this challenge and scored 3 quick goals to settle the match. Quake played well and had a few chances which could have turned the match. However, it was not to be on the night and IWAS came out deserved winners.
Men – Quake 2 (Dean Lockhart, Danny Martinez) – IWAS 6.
With 6 Futsalroos on show, the pace was fast and furious. Unfortunately for the team from Campbelltown, it was the Allstars who took the initiative. It was their Defensive effort that set up the win, negating Quake’s attacking fluency. Too often, Quake was totally predictable in attack, easily defended by the experienced IWAS team. After conceding an early goal, Bully Lockhart found the equaliser, but Quake were still struggling breaking down the well organised IWAS team. Whilst at the other end, Quake could not cope with the finishing of Tim Mascarello. After losing Lockhart to a second yellow card when the score was 1-3 in favour of IWAS, the rest of the match was a struggle. Uncharacteristic mistakes, fouls and lack of cohesion summed up the night for Quake.
